    Hi!!!

I've just bought some good quality speakers for my laptop but the final audio quality is very disappointing.

Tried them with another stereo and they sound amazing.

So, what could I do for improving drastically the output sound quality?

    I own a Clevo P650 SE.

    Thank you!!!

Speakers: last link in the (audio) chain and most unimportant.

Source: first link in the chain and most important.

Pre-Amp: Second link and second most important.

Amp: Third link and important (mostly) for the proper loading/driving of the speakers.

What Pre-Amp/Amp did you connect the speakers to after connecting the Clevo?

If you're trying to drive the speakers directly from the notebook, don't. ;)

What model speakers are these? Are you using the SPDIF output or the headphone output on your laptop to connect them?

Wait wait, I'm just looking for improving the sound quality of my headphones ,Audio technica M50x.

    My bad, sorry for that.

So, I don't think I should install an Amp or anything like that for making them sound good.

Maybe an external sound card just for that headphones?

    Thank you.

Any good quality external sound card is an 'amp'. ;)

In your case, buy one or more of each (sound card/dedicated amp) and make your decision then.

If you value your hearing***; you can't spend enough on this 'upgrade'. :)

***The higher the quality, the lower the volume needed to be immersed in the soul and the sound of the music you play.

External sound cards can''t drive high impedance headphones or most quality speakers. Be mindful of that.

summarizing, what should I buy for improving the sound quality?

Don't care if it's an Amp, preamp, both of them....

Thank you all for your help.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about audio, it's difficult for me to understand why it sounds better or not.

I don't think so, I'm looking for info about that output, I didn't even know we had that SPDIF in this laptop.

Better than a creative USB sound card for example?

I don't know how that sound card sounds, but for better quality get a DAC with or without an AMP.
All I can say is that I got rid of SLI clicking sound in every frame and the bass... I finally got some bass out of my Clevo P370EM3. Sound is way better and clearer with no interference.

Fiio makes good stuff indeed. I've been eyeing one of their MP3 players for a while but I can't seem to give up my awesome little Sansa Clip Zip. I think you'll be happy with that Fiio DAC. They'll do those headphones justice.

Yes, the creative soundcards are ok and if you have a low budget, it will eliminate all interference that comes from other electric signals going through the motherboard. Laptop sound can be crap because the DAC is crap or because of interference. FiiO is often seen as the budget option for a step up from USB soundcards. The DACs linked in the post above this one seem pretty good, but you'll have to look at the pricing, these things can get surprisingly expensive.

So, that FiiO is better than that Asus Xonar or Soundblaster XFI, correct?

I'm not looking for excellency, just improving the output sound without needing a big stereo.

The Fiio E10K and Asus Xonar U7 are both good, from reviews I've seen. Each has some advantages and disadvantages over the other. Personally, I got the Asus to drive my 5.1 speaker system. The Fiio may have more advantages when used with headphones. There are a number of threads on head-fi comparing the two.

Now I have my laptop plugged to a stereo and my headphones plugged to that stereo.

The proccess or the main concept could be similar?

Yes, and the better the Stereo, the better the sound you get when speakers are positioned correctly.
