What do you think or know will be released for laptops?
Yes, I do plan on buying one in a year.
Yes, I know I should fill out a FAQ in a year when Im ready to buy.
No, I do not need one now, I want a new on in a year though.
Yes, I know that NBR does not have a resident psychic ( at least, AFAIK ).
I apologize in advance if there is a similar topic.
This is basically just a discussion of what may or may not be released for notebooks in the next year or so. I want to see what people think and if anyone knows about something that I dont ( likely since im relatively uniformed about laptops as of late ) I'll start off the list
Windows 7 with DirectX 11
Intels Calpella platform
USB 3.0
BT 3.0
Next Generation GPUs from Nvidia and ATI
More common LED displays
More cost efficient SSDs

16:10 is extinct
-
AMD i hope.
-
Ati overpowering nvidia and apple releasing powerful ati chips with their 0.9" macbook pros.
-
i'm hoping for cheap SSD's (64 gb for 70 or less), and powerful integrated graphics. Either that, or switchable graphics becoming even more standard.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
- Intel will have 32nm quad cores and dual cores (with integrated graphics)
- DDR3 ram will be standard in most notebooks
- Netbooks will have Pinetrail processors, most should be fanless
- LED screens will rule
- 40nm ATI and Nvidia Directx 11 graphics cards
- Office 2010 will be out
- Ubuntu 10.04 will be out
-
Absolutely! With traditional hard drive approaching 1terabyte, the next logical step would be SSD. Their efficiency would be a godsend in laptop performance. These without a doubt.

Whats the deal with the 16:10 vs 16:9 anyway
I havent really heard too much of anything from or about AMD. It might be all rehashes and revamps until Fusion is released.
Powerful as in the 4800/5800 series? Doubt it. As for ATI vs Nvidia, I dont know, the GT300 is looking pretty powerful on paper, and the 5X00 series might be revamps of the 4X00, though powerful revamps. It will at the very least be interesting to see.
Will 32nm be out for notebooks? I know Westmere for desktops will be out, but im not sure about notebooks.
What is pinetrail? I take it that its some sort of Nehalem based ULV CPU? -

Yes by May of 2010, Arrandale (dual core version of Nehalem with integrated graphics) and clarksdale (quad core version of Nehalem for notebooks, no graphics) will both be out. Clarksfield comes out this October and will be 45nm and gets shrunk to 32nm next year while Arrandale comes out by March of next year and is starts at 32nm.
And Pinetrail is the next generation of Atom processors, which combines the cpu with the integrated gpu (like Arrandale) and uses less power than current Atoms. It will allow most netbooks to be passively cooled (no fan, like the current Dell Mini's) and is due around October of this year. It is 45nm, and 32nm Medfield replaces it in 2010.
In one year...
