I have a dell 1420 with a 250GB Hardrive that's failing. I bought a momentus 500GB from newegg but found that it has a female SATA port. My current Hardrive has a male SATA connection (pins sticking out the slides into the port in the laptop.) I tried looking for male SATA Hardrive online but couldn't find any. Is there a specific name for it? I would think that if it mentions that it is compatible with a dell Inspiron 1420, it build have the corresponding ports.
Can anyone suggest what I should do?
Thank You

Check to make sure that what is on your current HDD is not an adaptor that can be removed and used with the new HDD.
I'm pretty sure that you can't buy a 'custom' SATA port Momentus HDD... - could you link to the part you actually bought?
I'm pretty sure that your original HDD has a port adaptor on it to make it attach easier/better to your notebook.
Good luck. -

Hey, glad that is all it was.
Silly would have been to return the new drive instead of searching for more info, right?
