    hi all,
i just bougth a fujitsu siemens amilo Pi 1536 with 80GB SATA 5400 rpm hard disk. i want to upgrade it and have a 100 or 120 GB hard disk. Mine has theorically 80 GB, but that is what is advertised. In fact its 73 GB, and with the space that takes windows and other preinstalled staff, you have 64 GB free space when taken out of the box.
do i have to buy a fujitsu original hard disk? how much can it cost?

    thanks

No you don't have to buy a Fujitsu hard drive. Just find a 2.5" hard drive off of newegg or somewhere else. If your laptop has a Pentium M you will need to get a hard drive that is 120GB or smaller.

Hard drives really vary in price. Some are close to $100. Others cost close to $200.

The major cause of the discrepancy is HDD manufacturers report an 80GB drive as 80 billion bytes, whereas your OS (for historical reasons) prefers powers of 2, that is 1GB = 2^30 = 1,073,741,824 bytes... As a result those 80 billion bytes end up being around 74.5 binary GB.

Factor in a Windows install and a (probable, not too sure with Fujitsu) recovery partition, and 64GB remaining sounds reasonable. Unless you need a lot of space, you may simply need to repartition and perform a clean install of Windows.

Fujitsu-Siemens are not sold in the US so no hard drive from NewEgg. No you do not need a Fujitsu drive. If you can swing it, I would recommend the Hitachi 7k100 7200 RPM hard drive for desktop like performance.
