So I just regurgitated this idea out of my head while under the influence of lotsa liquor. Intel could fabricate special coding in thier processors that interact only with the untel ssd's and give them a big big boost in performance while also lessening the power usage. No other companies ssd's could access the special turbo mode for ssd drives so intel drives would automatically be the highest performers unless some 1 worked rly hard to make 1 faster even without the secret code. Genius idea I know this would basicallt force people to get the intel ssd or be stuck with slower drive that doesnt support latest ssd short cut commands

Welcome to the kind of things that got them sued by AMD. They can't really do that legally.

Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Yeah, And you better be a fast runner, if people find out it was you who had the bright idea when their non Intel SSD is crippled

I don't know if this interpretation would be legal anyway, but it doesn't sound as dirty.

Problem there is you have to be truthfull about the devices feature set. This then can be reverse enginered for equal or, god forbid, better usage or access. If you are not real carefull that newly addopted puppy can easily become a mad dog that will come back and bite you........... -
You're thinking of Nvidia wanting to sue Intel for forcing Nvidia out of the chipset business by moving the IGP and memory controller onto the CPU die. As far as I know though, Nvidia didn't actually file a lawsuit themselves, they're just cheering on the FTC's lawsuit against Intel in hopes that the FTC will force Intel into selling x86 licenses to companies that want to compete in the CPU business.
So long as the OP's idea doesn't involve Intel purposely degrading the performance of non-Intel SSDs it wouldn't be illegal....just like it wouldn't be illegal for AMD to improve on it's Hybrid Crossfire technology to make ATI GPUs perform even better when paired with an AMD IGP or Llano APU.
Incredible Idea for Intel (Intel if you're reading cut me a check)
