Hey I just got my lenovo Y500 and I was just wondering.

Is it okay to insert/remove the battery while the notebook is directly powered?
I've been reading around and a lot of people say its okay but some say you have to make the notebook on sleep mode first for some models.
    So what about this model?

Yeah I know it's a lame question, but is it really a lame question? is it? o_O

just leave it connected, problem solved.
not really a good idea putting in or taking out while connected to mains. you have to turn the lappy over or lift it up and if mains plug accidentally gets pulled out causing a hard shutdown.

Don't even do it in "sleep" mode. If it's in hibernate mode, ok I guess, since it's powered off and RAM contents are stored on the HDD. In Sleep mode it's using the battery or AC power to keep the RAM contents charged for "instant on". I'd recommend turning OFF the computer completely.

Although it will continue to run off the adapter regardless, it's better that you don't hot swap the battery. People are under the impression they are going to overcharge the battery, but power management has come a ways in regards to lithium ion batteries. I would advise just leaving it in - or if you intend on never being mobile, leave it out and run strictly off the adapter. Either way, the battery will slowly degrade over a long period.
