    Hello,

I got to purchase a new battery for my Inspiron 1420. My battery lasted only about 14 months, it holds about 20 minutes of charge now. The manufactured date of the battery is March 2008. Isn't that alittle short comparing to about 2-3 years some people get? I think 2 years would be reasonable, 1 year seems short!

Anyways, I raed the thread on replacement batteries saying for each person who doesn't have a single problem, there is one that does. Anyone wants to share their experience with replacements? What's the worst I can expect? I found this battery at half the price of manufacture's. Is it worth it?

Would Dell offer any discounts for batteries for previous customers, maybe if you send the old battery in? I just got off the phone with some lady in India and she told me I should be using my laptop with battery only, charge it up for 4 hours and use it let it discharge. Never-ever leave the AC charging all the time. Apparently the laptop manual says this too. LOL I understand the point of the generatede heat - but telling me that I used my laptop incorrectly???? Stupidest thing I ever heard. And in fact laptop manual says - keep ur laptop pluged in with AC as much as you can and never remove the battery. Do they ever read their own manuals? Can I use this against them, to get some discount? I'm 3 months past the warranty period, I know it might be considered wear and tear, but i feel alittle ripped off after just 1 year. I didnt even use my laptop that much. Any arguments work on theses guys?

    Thanks

I can sympathize with you when coming to OEM batteries and Support Desks. But there is not much here that you can get from Dell or any notebook manufacturers. A little perseverance might get something out of them maybe (?).

My personal preference is always to stay with OEM batteries, regardless of how much you save on 3rd party replacement.

    cheers ...
