    I got Dell Inspiron 1420.When I tried to connect to portable HD,nothing came out.Explorer is not showing external drive.USB HD is working properly with my friend laptop.
    Will anyone please tell me,what is problem with laptop? :confused:

    were u in battery when you plugged in the hdd.....i guess vista has some power management system that turns off power to usb sometimes......so use or adapter and try it once more......also make sure you are in high performance power plan than power saver or balanced when switching on.....change the usb ports and try it...........

    if these doesnt change the problem..... go to device manager and check if ur device is listed there.......post your results.......
