Here's the deal,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 which had a 1440x900 screen in it (WSXGA or whatever...). Unfortunately I broke this very part and I need a replacement.
I looked on eBay and saw that there are many of those lower resolution WXGA (1280x800) screens for Inspiron 1520 and the question is, whether this would work on my laptop if I inserted it? The fact is I'm quite short on cash and I dont really want to pay those extra 100 bucks if it is in any way possible![]()
Thanks![]()

I would say yes if your laptop supports a 1280x800 resolution! as far as wsxga vs wxga you'll suffer some screen quality.I just replaced my screen with a glossy finish rather than a high defination bright view screen that originally came with my laptop.I do notice a small difference but it wasnt worth the extra $100.00 to me......

Ok thanks

i just bought a refurb from dell....the inspiron are cool looking in my book,,,love the silver finish. also, a big factor was 15.4 inches, and 8600gt...the new notebooks have weired resolution, try getting wallpaper for em.. mine was $569 with the 8600gt,..bad was the 1.5ghz duo core 2...bought a 2.4 ghz cpu off ebay for $169....

I left my laptop on the floor. And during the night I stepped on it by mistake. I ordered a new one, 1440x900 WXGA+ (exact same one I had only this one isn't glossy) for my inspiron 1520. I installed it and everything is hooked up.
When I power up my laptop it shows the vista status bar, but then the screen goes black. Also the picture is split in two (two identical pictures, one on top of the other and shrunken).
I can enter safe mode, but I can't start my laptop normally. I was using an external monitor for awhile and though maybe it was defaulting back to the other one, but hitting fn+f8 is doing nothing.
Any clue as to what's what? I don't know if the new monitor is bad or what. It's just a display and it can produce a display so I'm thinging it's not the monitor... I need help. -
a bit confused, you mean you walked on the lcd screen part of your notebook, and you ordered a new lcd screen,,,,and now you get a double picture on it?

Should be fine, I know people change out screens all the time. As long as it is the same model.

Anyone can confirm this?

I'm trying to figure this out as well. I'd like something that has a higher res and isn't glossy. I can live with gloss, but the res is key for me. WSXGA+ is where I would like to get to.

The problem is I dont know if my laptop display support dual lvds even if it does will my cable does have dual lvds. Coz I search wiki single lvds max can support up to 1400x1050.

The difference in resolutions can be annoying and in my opinion not very worth the extra bucks..
