Can someone please help me with this! Bought a Dell Inspiron 1525 which displays 1280x768 when hooked up to my 37" Samsung LCD whereas the screen native resolution is 1360x768 (as my pc does no problem). Having the 1280 resolution is bearable, but is there anyway I can force the resolution? Additionally, my laptop works only when both screen and monitor are on - switching to the monitor only (TV) decreases the resolution! Why!!!?

Anyone got any advice? Much appreciated

If you right click the desktop, and go to preferences, and go to the nVidia control panel, you will be able to cnange the screen resolution of your external monitor.
Simply select the box with the number "2" in it, and then move the slider to the 1360x768 resolution. Then click apply, then okay, and then the screen resolution will change to 1360x768 on the external screen.

    I hope this helps,

    K-TRON

Thanks for the advice, but the best I can get on my TV is the 1280x768 which is not too bad. There is no option for 1360x768 - even thought my pc does and both my laptop and my cousins work fine on his 40" (3 in bigger TV - same model).

With the laptop screen and TV on, it looks ok. Closing the lid changes all the resolution on my tv and looks dreadful. Dell are at a loss. It works fine on the 40" but not my 37"! Perhaps the software in the Samsung Tv then?

My only guess would be some sort of weird HDCP-related problem. Without proper HDCP authentication, HDCP compliant harware will downscale the image to 540p or lower (this is required in the HDMI/HDCP contract). Other than that, I have no idea.
