The backlight on my Inspiron 6000 is going bad and need help. I am able to buy another backlight but I do not have any instruction on how to remove the old backlight and install the new one.

I would appreciate it if someone has instructions on replacement of the backlight that they provide them to me. Thanks

Changing the CCFL backlight is really hard. I have replaced 1 before. You have to dissemble the LCD it self and solder a new light in. After that it never seems to go back together quite right. Save yourself some time and buy a new LCD instead. Also did you check your inverter?

It is probably an inverter problem rather than the CCFL itself. Try replacing the inverter first. The inverter is both cheap and easy to be replaced.

I recall there's a guy at Thinkpad forums who does the job for you, just send the LCD and the new backlight and he'll do the work, although I also suggest getting the LCD new

Is there a way that I can test to see if it is the backlight or the inverter?

    yes you can.
You need to remove the front bezel of your lid. The inverter is a long narrow silicon board usually located directly below the LCD. If you unplug the end from the screen, you could check for voltage coming out of it. Normally the inverter outputs between 16 and 24 volts. If no power is coming out of the inverter, than the inverter is dead. If power is coming out of the inverter, but the lights are still dim, than the backlight needs to be replaced.

In my case, the only way I know I have a problem is when I close the lid and the machine goes into power saving mode. Once I open the lid and the screen turns on the screen has a red tinge for about 5 seconds and then everything is fine from there on.

Any suggestions on what the problem is or how I diagnose it?
