I decided to upgrade my 80 gb HDD to a 120. I had to request a rebuild disk from Dell since mine was lost during a move. I placed the new HDD in the laptop and the rebuild disk in the DVD drive (after backing up the old drive). I switched the boot to the DVD drive, but when my laptop starts, it states no bootable devices are present and gives me the F1 or F2 routine.

    HELP!!

Try pressing the esc key while the laptop boots and see if you can get into a "Choose boot device" menu.

It should be F12 on the Inspiron 6000 and all other Dell laptops...

I pressed F12 and chose the DVD drive. I also entered the bios and changed it so that only the DVD drive was made bootable. My guess is that my DVD drive or the disk they sent me was bad.

What exactly does it say on this "rebuild" disk? Did you actually get an installation CD or just something with drivers?

It's red and it has OPERATING SYSTEM already installed on your computer.

It also has reinstallation DVD at the top.
