I have a 4 year old Inspiron 6000 that has given me good service but it has been slowing down lately (I suspect the 40Gb HD is getting loaded). I've ordered a new HD and thought I'd put 2 new 1Gb SODIMM's in this weekend. I have 2 - 512Mb chips in now.

When I put both new Kingston 1Gb SODIMM 677/533 chips in the notebook will not boot. If I leave the old 512Gb chip in the rear slot it boots fine and sees the 1.5Gb with either of the 2 new 1Gb chips in the front slot. But as soon as I put either of the 1Gb chips in the rear slot the notebook will not boot.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be happening so that the rear slot does not see the new 1Gb RAM chip?

    Thanks,
    Roddyama

The 6000 is supposed to support 2Gb. Right now I have one new 1Gb chip and 1 old 512 Mb chip and it's running fine but it would be nice to get both new 1gb chips working.
