Alright I have begun to think about overclocking my x300 card in my laptop. I wanted to get an idea of how hot the card was originally so I downloaded I9kfangui and ran a couple of tests normally. I am kinda shocked because while running oblivion IV it reached a maximum temperature of 76 degrees C!!!!
I haven't even done anything to the computer, its just stock configuration.

Is this too hot or normal? My cpu maxes out at around 61 degrees C or so.

Any comments or thoughts would be greatly appreicated

That's not awful hot, especially while running a very demanding game. I'd blow out all of the vents with canned air. If you are going to overclock, make sure to take it in small steps, and be sure that the card is stable at those speeds (no artifacts, etc)

70 C is within the cards thermal envelope. It has a shutdown temperature much higher than that. It may be that it it is running a little hot, because the venst are a bit dusty. Have a look and see if there is any dust there, and if there is, see if you can remove it.

I have blown out all of the vents with compressed air and the temperatures still get that hot. If I were to overclock it how hot can it go before the card dies/shuts down?

Yeah clean out the vents, apply AS5, and buy a cooling pad!

From what I can find that's quite high for an X300, I'd avoi overclocking until you can find a way of getting the temps down. As has been said, try a cooling pad.
