So someone spilled their drink on my notebook and doesnt work anymore. Nothing toched the screen, so I thats still in working condition, however when turned on you can hear it boot up but nothing comes up on the screen. So i'm thinking the video card may have been ruined which, correct me if im wrong isn't replaceable, and therefore means i need to replace my motherboard. I'm wondering where I can find the motherboard serial number so I can find the right replacement part for it, so that the motherboard actually fits my processor (I have the 1.6GHz). Defintely do not want to go through Dell for this. Any help is appreciated.

(I wasn't sure if this topic went here or in the Dell section, so feel free to move it if its in the wrong one!)

Remove the battery of your laptop, search on dell for manual to open your laptop to spare parts and let it try. Then, put all back together. ( key word search on dell is Upgrade hardware manual ) or sth like that, they'll show you how to open your laptop to spare parts. I had the same problem before, i spilled a WHOLE lot of water on it and after that, i remove everything, put it back. many times then it work again, the only thing that doesn't work is the mousepad which can replace by a USB mouse.

I know how to open it; that's not the problem. I have tried trying it out, but everything is all sticky and doesnt work anymore. My question is where to find the s/n of the motherboard so i can buy the correct replacement part.
