I have an Inspiron 8100 and I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the processor (Pentium 3 is standard) to a Pentium 4 or higher. I know I have to replace the motherboard, but is there a replacement board available? If so, can the computer handle it? I have XP SP 2. I already have the max amount of RAM (512MB). I may be getting a new hard drive. I currently have a 30GB hard drive. Intel Pentium 3 1.2 Gigahertz processor.

No you can't put in a P4 in there, and replacing a motherboard will be 1) very very very costly and 2) pretty much not possible since it would be very hard to find a P4 mobo that will fit in your specific notebook.

I suggest you save your money for a new more powerful notebook. It's absolutely pointless to spend all that money on upgrading ur computer, especially upgrading to a lousy and hot P4.

A couple hundred bux will get you a much much better machine than you upgrading your laptop.
