    Dumb question here.

I have an offer to buy a 1GB Kingston laptop ram for a really cheap price.

    Kingston 1GB DDR2 SDRAM Memory Module - KTL-TP667/1G
    667MHz DDR2-667/PC2-5300 - DDR2 SDRAM - 200-pin

According to the manufacturer website, this specific ram is optimised for use in a ThinkPad but would I have problem using this in a Dell Inspiron 9300 ?

All Pc5300 memory will run in your dell system. There is no such thing as thinkpad optimized memory, it is the same stuff. It is just a marketing lie so that you buy their extremely overpriced ram.
If your laptop has a free memory slot, I would go for it and upgrade your system.

As a tip, after you purchase your RAM please make sure you rum memtest to make sure your ram isnt faulty. If the test is clean then your good to go. If any chances it isnt just simply return it. =)
