Alright, I'm looking around forums but I need this answer quick. I filled out the faq a couple of weeks ago and had some great help on my decision. I was all set on an Inspiron e1405 as of about a half hour ago.. core 2 duo 7200, 7200rpm hd, 2gb of ram and an intel integrated videocard. At first I didn't care about the videocard because I could just upgrade if needed, but I just read its impossible to upgrade because it is directly on the board and the intel integrated is the only video card option on the 1405.. and it runs off of the pc's actual ram. Now how much of an effect would this have on my system with 2gb of ram? I'll be doing alot of audio recording and video encoding. I wanted to order this sytem tonight because I can get it for a little over $1000 but if it's going to be really slow because the video card is eating up all my memory I might have to get the bulkier e1505 instead. Thanks in advance..

I'm guessing very little effect on performance. The HP dv2000t does offer a discrete card and is a better notebook in my own opinion.

The video card will not be eating up all your memory but only up to 224 MB of the RAM and only when it's necessary. So, when you have 2GB, that's really not a problem.

If you think that you will need a dedicated card, I guess you know about the HP dv2000t since you have filled out the FAQ already.

Yeah the dv2000t would be my choice if the Dell wasn't a couple hundred dollars cheaper.. I hope the effect on the performance would be barely noticable but I have no idea.. since i'm recording I'd like it to be as fast as possible.. that's why I'm getting the 7200hd and 2gb ram.

That makes sense.. thanks alot man.. saved me alot of time. But yeah the dv2000t would be my first choice on a laptop but the Dell is a couple hundred dollars cheaper. And I would have to buy a 7200rpm hd for the HP and install it myself because for some reason you can't upgrade to one on the site.

$2,000 is a great deal for that amount of power. Unless you are gaming, then you don't need a dedicated video card; the GMA950 will suffice.

Be sure to look into the HP dv2000t that Dreamer suggested - it won't get you as much for your money performance-wise, but it is more visually pleasing and has better build quality.

EDIT: Do not cross post on the forums.

Hah I was wondering where my post went in the other forum. Anyway, I'm going to order the Dell tonight. The dv2000 might look better but the extra couple hundred looks ALOT better. Quick question.. are the screens on the 1405 really as bad as people make them out to be or are they just being anal? If they're that bad I might as well just go with the standard widescreen sga on it instead of the TruBrite.

Check the Dell forums for user feedback; I would think they have fixed most of the problems by now.

Eh too late.. Ordered already. Who cares about Trubrite anyway.. a screen is a screen, if I can see it I'll be ok.
