    Hi,

After upgrading my laptop, I've got a Western Digital Black 2.5" HD going spare, and just happen to need a second drive in a desktop system. Are there many obstacles to using a 2.5" drive in a desktop system? Will just a bracket to mount it suffice?

    Thanks!

It should work fine, it'll just be small like a SSD, so make sure you keep it screwed in properly etc.

The power and data connectors are exactly the same. Since the 2.5" drive is so small and light, you can just use two screws on one side to secure it inside the computer case in the spot of a 3.5" desktop drive.

Thanks for the responses! Good to know the existing connectors should work too. Hope to try it this weekend.

If you don't want to bolt the drive directly to the case, you can buy one of these adapters that allows a 2.5" drive to securely fit in a 3.5" slot.

Should work find on power and sata just make sure you have the adapter that allows you to mount 2.5 to 3.5 drive bay and you should be good to go. Unless your desktop has mounts for 2.5 then just mount it to the 2.5 drive bay.
