Anyone know if it is possible to move the HDD drive in an HP Pavilion DV6000 to the optical drive caddy so you can install an SSD in the HDD bay (there is only one HDD bay)? If possible is it a pain / asking for problems? If so, I'd probably just buy a new notebook instead.

Hey thanks. I just need to determine if my optical bay is PATA or SATA. I assume SATA since my HDD bay is SATA?

You will need to find out your chipset, and go from there. I just glanced over the guide, but I think taking out the drive will help you to figure it out as well. Im not exactly the most knowledgeable when it comes to this aspect of notebooks, so hopefully someone else will pipe in with more useful information.

Looks like I have ICH7 chipset based on a Google search for DV6000T, I found several pages referring to 945GM/ICH7 which means the optical bay is PATA? Is it still worth doing it?

Well good that it worked out. I would personally not cheap out on the SSD, I would recommend Intel, they are generally the fastest and the prices are pretty good.

I'm considering either the Crucial 64GB or the Corsair 64GB Extreme. I think they both have the Indilinx controller which is the important part right?
