Has anyone plugged a 2.5" SATA hard drive in a desktop? What worries me is that 2.5" SATA drives run on 5 volts, while the SATA power connectors in desktops supply 12 volts.

I've googled this, some said it works fine, and some said it kills the drive. Is this doable or not? Have you tried it? Did it work?

SATA power cables are both 5V and 12V, so they are fine being plugged into desktops.

I usually use SATA connection to move large amount of data from my laptop's HDD to my file server. Just pull the 2.5" out and plug it into the desktop like a normal 3.5" drive.
