    Install sata 3 ssd into gateway p7805u? Possible?

    I have a gateway p7805u and i need to upgrade to an ssd and im wondering if samsung ssd 840 evo with sata 3 will be compatible with my laptop.

    If it uses SATA-based hard drives, you will be able to install a SATA III SSD in there. You'll just be limited to whatever SATA speed your laptop uses (probably SATA II), though you won't really notice much of a difference for most tasks.

    Sure. The SATA interface is backward compatible. However, your brand new Samsung SSD SATA III will be capable of much greater speeds than your laptop's SATA II will allow.

    Still faster than most things you will connect it to: it can reach up to 285/275MB/s sequential read and sequential write speed rates respectively. Definitely the refresh your laptop needs.

    You're not really going to find many SATA II SSDs sold today, and I would strongly recommend not getting a used one. Anyway, I wouldn't imagine an older SATA II SSD being much cheaper than a SATA III SSD, especially one with TLC NAND like the EVO.

    Yeah and i didnt get a bigger one because i heard i can install the os on the ssd and i have an extra hdd bay so ill buy a normal hdd for that to store things. Any advice on things i should know before proceeding with the format and installing the os?
