I want to upgrade the hard drive on my laptop and l am considering the available options to make the process as easy as possible. I have already bought the hard drive as well as an enclosure for it. I am using Vista Business and l have made a complete backup and image of the drive using the Vista Complete PC Backup and Restore image utility. I have the image on my 500gb external hard drive. Is it possible to just format the new drive to NTFS and then install it to the laptop, after that just use the Vista recovery disc to re-install Vista and then restore my laptop to its old state using the image that l have on my 500gb external drive? Or is it better to just use Acronis True Image to clone my drive to the new one in the enclosure and then just install it. I would greatly appreciate any help.

I upgraded my HDD with a Hitachi and it came with an external enclosure and cloning software. The process was quick and super easy, just cloned to the new HDD and installed it, everything was copied perfectly, no need to reinstall OS. I hear WD has a free cloning download on their site.
