    Hi,
I just bought a wildly expensive 2GB from Best Buy for my Lenovo T60 XP machine. I'm running Excel 2007 and it's super slow and I hoped the extra Ram would help. doesn't really seem so. I have a 2GB 800mhz and a 1 gb 667.

Do I need to do anything else? Or will the notebook automatically know that there's more RAM?

    Thanks!

First, I would try and return that RAM as it's overpriced and you can get a 4GB kit (2x2GB) for under $75 on Newegg or Frys.com

As for the sluggishness, maybe run a spyware scanner and also check for any viruses.

The notebook automatically knows. But the Office 2007 Suite (including Excel) is known to run slower then the old 2003 which many companys are "downgrading" to.

Well you made a mistake buying a 2Gb card from best buy, I suggest returning it.
It probably cost you $80 or so.
Well you can get a single 2Gb card on newegg for around $40.

Your T60 will not utilize 800Mhz memory, so your system will downclock the memory to 667Mhz.

if you return the memory to best buy, you should invest in this:

if your system is still running on the slow side, I recommend uninstalling programs which you do not use.
I would also run MSCONFIG in the run command and shut off processes which you are not using.
This way you have less processes running in the background, and less programs utilizing your harddrive, cpu and memory.

T60 will not recognize 4Gb ram either, due to the BIOS limitation.

I managed to purchase 2 X 1GB RAM modules (Crucial - 667MHz) for about $20 the other day. Best Buy's price for RAMs is just ridiculous.

As many have already stated, you overpaid for the RAM. You should return it and try to get your money back. Of course, you don't have to if you want to avoid the hassle. Anyway, I have not found that Office 2007 runs any slower on my machine than Office 2003 did, so I don't really know what to tell you other than running a virus scan and a spysweeper to see if there is any of that on your system. Also, run a disk cleanup to rid your system of old files that you may not need or use anymore. If all else fails, then maybe it is the suite and you may want to downgrade, although I highly doubt that that is really necessary.
