Hey. I accidently installed a 2gb stick in my HP Mini 311-1000NR while it was on. I THOUGHT it was turned it off and I TOTALLY forgot about the battery. Fourtanetly, it still boots and everything looks fine. The only problem is that it's only showing up as the original 1 gb of ram.

Is the stick bad or did I possibly ruin the mem card slot all together? Thank you.

Yikes.. I guess you can swap the both of them to see if the new one is still OK in the other slot lol.

The machine still works and yes, I restarted. I just RMAed the ram stick. Unfortunately, the other stick is soldered into the mobo :(

So does that ruin the slot? :(?

It shouldn't have caused any damage.
Many people hot-plug ram when they need to hot-flash it after a bad SPD flash.

As long as you put it in carefully (without shorting any pins).

You probably killed the RAM chip.

You're lucky it was only the RAM that is dead.

I've seen a MB in a Dell 1330 that got fried by leaving the battery in and switching RAM. - Only cost $400 too! Ouch.
