I went and bought a corsair 4 gig kit of ram today. The ram installed a lot easier than I thought. I ran Memtest86+ and it found over 10,000 errors. I then ran vista memory diagnostics tool and it found an error as well.

I took out the new ram and put the old ram back in. So far I ran vista memory diagnostics tool and it found no errors.

My questions is, I put in 4 gigs of ram on a 32 bit operating system. Would that be a cause for errors to show up in both tests.

    Secondly, I bought this ram:

I'm pretty positive that the RAM is compatible with my t61, but maybe I overlooked a compatibility issue?

That memory is compatible with your laptop. It is very odd that you are getting that many errors. I would email Corsair and attach a failed screenshot of memtest so that they can send you some new memory.

You should not be getting any errors regardless of having 4gb on a 32 bit platform

Luckily I bought it from Microcenter so I could go in and return it tomorrow. Hopefully they will take back the package that I had to cut in half to get the ram out.

I find it odd that there would be that many problems with the NEW ram...It was the first time in 20 years of owning a computer that I decided to run this test. I guess it was a good idea.

If microcenter does not take it back, shoot an email with teh serial number on the packaging to Corsair, and they will replace your memory without any questions.

A defective RAM module is common, thats why you should use memtest86+ on it straight away.

Refund it and try a different batch or even brand

Replaced the RAM today, let memtest86+ run for about 4 hours and it passed 4 times without any errors. I ran the vista diagnostic tool and no errors on that either. Thanks for the help...
