    Hello,

Not sure why but when I plug the SSD drive into the notebook I loose the CD Rom drive.

    - The SSD drive is a SanDisk UATA 5000 1.8"
    - 1.8" ZIF to 50 Pin IDE Adapter
    - Sony TX37GP

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Since it is a 50-pin adapter, 6 of the pins are for jumping purposes to set a drive in Master or Slave Mode.

Or, you can look for a tool to flash the bootcode of the ODD, to change it to Master.
