I just purchased a new Samsung HM160HC to install into my Toshiba Satellite?!
It looks to me like the drive cannot "attach" directly into or onto the Toshiba HDD connection.
I am afraid to proceed--as I don't want to "short out" the new drive. Do I need an Adapter? Or, do I just slide them together using the small "interposer" that was left in the bay?
I purchased this Toshiba with NO HDD in it...so I've never had the opportunity to "SEE" how the connection went...

every laptop hard drive installation i have delt with always have somekind of adpater or casing the bare drive fit and and then naturally fit in the hard drive slot. maybe they forgot to include it when they took their hd out (some adapters look like they are part of the hard drive, hence they could have easily forgot).

Most PATA drives use an adaptor which fits over the pins. They are commonly called interposers.
Remove the interposer from your old harddrive and install it on your new HM160HC.
Than slide the HM160HC and the interposer into your laptop. Your system should see the drive without any problems.
Please note that there is a key (block instead of a pin), so that the adaptor can only fit on one way.
