Anything in particular I need to know before switching out the hard drive? I'm guessing it's as easy and plug and play then formatting it...

If I'm wrong I would appreciate any info anybody may have. ^_^

Just becareful. Grounded yourself, and wash your hands before you install the hd.

Sigh - Welp I just found out Dell's HDD in the e1705 has a weird connector, not the usual HDD connector. The Travelstar that I got from NewEgg has the same type of connector as that of a desktop, or at least very similar.

I didn't know I needed to buy a certain type of hard drive that had the right connector. The Dell connector looks something like that of a CD memory card or so... They are completely different.

Anybody have any pointers here for me? I guess I'll have to RMA the HDD unless somebody can tell me of something like an adapter I can buy to fix this.

    Thanks!

Oh boy, this is not good. If you buy a regular desktop hd, it will definetly not work. Cause of the physical size (3.5") of the hd and connector. You must get a 2.5" with SATA connector for your E1705. Newegg has couple of these hd.

    :D

I did get a laptop HDD hehe and it is the right size, my problem is the connector (BOTH HDDs are SATA HDDs) is completely different than that of the Dell HDD. You've never heard of this before?

    OHHH. I may know why.

When I took out my old hd from my laptop, I noticed that it had some kind an extender on it. So I took it out from the old hd and put the extender to the new hd and bingo, it worked. Your old hd may have some kind of extended on it.

i seriously doubt that is the problem. dell would not put some weird proprietary connector on there. did you remove the original HD from the caddy?

I figured out the problem. I ordered an ATA-6 HDD off Newegg when the laptop needs a SATA. I thought the only 2 types of HDD were IDE and SATA....So I thought ATA-6 was the same thing, they are so dang similar. :/
