    Hello,

My primary hard drive on my HP DV9700t laptop failed. Unfortunately my laptop is now 41 days past warranty. So HP had me purchase from them a hard drive that is suppose to work with my laptop. I originally had 2x 120GB Seagate 7,200rpm Hard Drives, the replacement drive they sent is a Hitachi 120gb 7,200rpm SATA Hard Drive.

So I took the dead drive out of Primary Hard Drive slot 1, installed the new Hitachi Drive, booted up the laptop from the Recovery Disk (Windows Vista Home Premium) and it installs a 'Factory image recovery' after reformatting the Windows partition. After that is completed the laptop restarts and then I get a Operating System Not Found message.

So I opened up the Primary Hard Drive slot 1, where I installed the new Hitachi Drive and checked and rechecked that it is installed correctly. Then I tried to boot it up into the BIOS diagnostic mode but it would not allow me to perform a 'test' on the Primary Hard Drive, although I could on the Seconardy Hard Drive (which contains my second 120GB Seagate 7,200 SATA HDD). I could not find anything in the BIOS other then the Diagnostic tool that would allow me to 'see' the hard drives, so I'm thinking maybe the BIOS is not seeing the Hitachi Drive.

I'm not sure how to proceed from here. I was hoping someone had some experience with this issue. While I've installed Hard drives before on Desktops, never from a laptop, especially one with BIOS options so limited. Thank you for any help or tips.
