I can just replace the hard drive, and the do a clean install with the recovery disk? Will all go well? Is doing a install on a new hard drive just like recovering a computer or is it different?

Yup, you'll be doing a recovery install to the new hard drive.
Assuming that Toshi hasn't crippled your recovery disks somehow, things should load right up as if you had just bought the lappie new. -
And that hard drive should work fine correct?
Well thanks for the quick response -
Don't those disks rely on a recovery partition written to the HDD? And therefore won't work on a new drive?
(I'm no expert, I got myself an OEM copy of my OS disk ASAP, but I think that's how they work) -
Is yours the model with dual hard drive slots?
-
No, it only has 1.

I have recently upgraded my HD, I used Acronis Migrate Easy to clone my HD and installed the new HD as I have OEM Vista.

It should work but i would look for a better hard drive... look out for the 500GB Hitachi 7K500 and if u want , u can look for the 250GB version... if u look out for offers , its for $80... otherwise its about 100 but its worth it as it is fast...
Installing new hard drive?..
