omg omg omg i just received my intel x25-m 160gb ssd at long last))
just wondering whether i need to remove the black 'frame' that surrounds the disk?
also, mine is a 'G1GC' version... anyone has the same as mine? would like to check something... somehow the box says 'G1C1' when I ordered it was supposed to be 'G1C5' and now on the disk itself it says 'G1GC' (confused!)

if it fits, no.
it looks like this, not?
if it looks like this, just pop it in and use it and love it -
Don't remove the frame unless you want to see the insides, it's there to make it the same size as other 2.5" drives. You might need a caddy though, depending on what it is going in.

no need for a caddy. just drop it in the pc and let it lie about in the case.
it's an ssd, fully shock resistant anyways
mine have some rubberband around binding them to the case. i completely removed the casings for the hdd's that fill up half the case.
this, of course, for computer installations. in notebooks, just pop in and be happy.
funnily i now noticed, my intel 1.8" ssd does not have the black casing of the picture. it has a silver metal casing. weird. -
i'm in a dilemma... currently i'm still using my T60. haven't order the x200s yet due to windows 7.
Should I:
1. just install the ssd into my T60 and install vista over it, then when my x200s come, reinstall the ssd into the new lappy and reinstall vista again?
2. wait till my x200s comes (which may be in late July) then install the ssd into it (and then vista)?

just install it and have fun with it. and on a x25-m, don't care about vista/win7. they perform just the same on both.
if you really want win7, wait for it. but else, don't just follow the hype. vista performs awesome on the ssd. just enjoy it right now. -
folks,
I'm referring to the frame as shown in the pic below... that black thing that is screwed in. i saw some other pics without the black frame (and you could see the barcode).
Should I remove the frame? I tried inserting it without removing the frame and it's OK, just that it's pretty tight. Then again, if I remove the frame, I think the thickness would drop by about 3-5mm... and I wonder if it'll cause the disk to be loose in the bay.

clue: if something is put on with screws, it's a good idea to NOT take it off.

Hello there. Your product is the 9.5mm form factor version of the 2.5" solid state memory drive. It depends on your notebook specifications whether this or the thinner profile 7mm form factor 2.5" drive is better. In most laptops 9.5mm is the industry standard. As such you should not remove the metal bracket to have a more flush mechanical fitting. Removing the bracket returns the memory drive back to the 7mm form factor size.

thanks dude, that was very helpful

hi folks, just wondering, do we need to register the product with Intel? can't seem to find any website to do so... how do we check the warranty of the product?

I suggest you call their Customer Service Hotline. Ask to speak to a manager to speed up the process! Good Luck!!!
