like the title what exactly is Intel 1GB TurboMemory Module i have no idea heh

In short, it's flash memory that helps your computer boot up faster. From what ppl on here have said it helps little.

And half the Turbo Memory acts as a non-volatile cache for the HDD so the HDD can power down more often when you are running on battery.
Anandtech prepared a good analysis of Turbo Memory.

From what I've read it's basically useless tech right now, but may become useful in the future.

At last it seems that some1 here knows stuff about the intel turbo memory..
Well can some1 tell me how to get this thing to work since in control pannel it is tell me "(error10) device cannot load"..,Also in the Intel turbo memory console it is showing 0gb cache and not 1gbhave been searching for about 1month and cannot find any step by step guide on how to get this to work...so pls if u can held id be very satisfied

Step 1 to getting the Turbo Memory to work (assuming that you have got the module installed) is to load the Intel Matrix Storage Driver and enable AHCI in the BIOS. You need to do that in the right sequence since changing the BIOS before installing the driver will give you a BSOD. If AHCI is enabled and working you will see a SATA/AHCI controller under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
I don't know whether Intel's latest version of the Turbo Memory driver (released a few days back) will automatically set up the Matrix Storage Driver, but it's included in the installation package. Thereafter, everything should happen automatically but may need several reboots. Successful installation will give you the following in Device Manager: (i) A disk drive called IMD-0 (this is the Readyboost); (ii) a NVcache tab for your HDD properties; and (iii) an Intel Turbo Memory Controller under Storage Controllers.

Hmmm.... I'm debating whether I should spend $30 to add turbo memory to my 5920G. Do you guys think that it's worth it?
-
thanks ,im at school atm so when i get home i'd just download the newest drivers, uninstall the drivers and give a fresh re-install..
Do i need to go from control pannel to uninstall or does the intel turbo memory console have an option itself? -

I using a 4gb SD card for the Readyboot. Pretty cheap.
-
well in the device manager i have ide/ata/ataip and under them is intel(r) ichm8m 3 port serial ata storage controller 2828
What does this mean?is it that i dont have the card installed?
turbo mem console is still showing ogb...im starting a fresh install now -
On the successfull install the only thing i can see on device manage is the intel turbo memory consol under the storage controllers
and bdw its telling me "error 10 device cannot start" even tho i updated to the newest drivers
Bdw i cant find any Ahci options in the bios -
You'd be better off investing in more RAM. -

I have an xxodd laptop ...Wath can i do to solve this issue? should i try using driver cleaner and give a fresh install? the card is instralled right since the laptop is reading it
-
Could you tell me how you use the SD card as "Readyboot" ... of course in a "dummy-proof" way ... I am not that handy with computers ... just enough to be dangerous.
Thanks,

Hi NJoy,
THANKS ... now that is a dummy-proof answer.
Q: What is considered a "Fast-enough" SD Card?
BTW, Love your Avatar.
G! -
Anything is good, as long as it's above 256MB if I recall.
-
the faster the sd card the better.
You should look at the 4gb sdhc cards from Adata, they are 150x and they are about $15, so you get a lot for a small price.
However having more internal memory will always be faster than using a sd card.
I would upgrade the memory in your laptop before buying a sdhc card to find out that readyboost is not as fast as it sounds.

I quote from wikipedia:
the device should have an access time of 1 ms or less
the device must be capable of 2.5 MB/s read speeds for 4 KB random reads spread uniformly across the entire device and 1.75 MB/s write speeds for 512 KB random writes spread uniformly across the device.
many manufacturers quote speeds of 30mb/s+ however these are generally sequential reads/writes. USB drives etc... tend to have dismal random writes.
Before you buy anything i'd checkout the 'actual' speed of the storage you're buying not what the manufacturer states. The are many benchmarks out there.
hope this helped! -
Hi folks,
THANKS Jisaac, K-Tron & eleron ...
I think I am going with your suggestion and just upgrade the internal memory ... but since I am a curious cat ... I might shell out some bucks and try Jisaac's idea ... just so I can say I tried it for myself.
THANKS again guys,
G! -
4 Gb of ram can be had for 50$ now, check out the HOt ram deals .

I just plugged in my sister's 500Gb Maxtor and Vista offered to use ReadyBoost lol =)))
