My situation is that I have bought a new SSD on sale and I have a ASUS U36SD coming. My ASUS is not expected for several weeks, but I have the SSD now. I am using my Sager 8850 for transfering data over to SSD before ASUS gets here (and to make sure SSD works before it arrives as well).

    Issues & Question:

I am using an external enclosure to test and transfer data to SSD. It is a USB 2.0 enclosure (Silver River II) but I am sure that it supports SSD's. Anyhow, when I hook it all up, the laptop realizes something is connected but the SSD doesn't show up in my computer or Disk Management. It shows up in devices as an external, that's it. What am I doing wrong?

As a side question, can I put data on the SSD, create a restore disk when I get my ASUS, Swap Harddrives, restore using disk, and still keep the data i put on the SSD intact? Is there a better way to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need to format it first. That is the reason why it doesn't show up under "My Computer".
