Does anybody know for sure the screw size for the 7mm drive?

I bought this drive to upgrade new T420s.
After I removed the spacer, the screws are too tall and the drive wont fit in the HDD bay. The screws also keep the SSD metal cover together.

Currently, I am using it without (open) any screws, though the HDD tray of T420s holds the SSD cover in place.

    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the post. I figured I need smaller screws. :)

My question was - what is the size of the screws and where do I get the them from.

I came across a site that sells only Laptop screws and was thinking if I don't find such screw in a B&M store then I would order it online for which I need the screw size.

I just measured my G2 Intel and it seems the height of the drive without the spacer is 1/4".

    Look here:

Also I am so mad, I can't get the spacer to come off! If I keep going I will strip the nails.

The height is 4mm/5mm. ( I guess it has to be at least 1mm less than 7mm).

It is a 2-56 Pan Phillips screw - or so I thought. I bought the screws (after comparing one from the SSD with others in the store), but 2-56 a little too big. and it does not fit.

But guess what - I tried the Laptop screw next to the card reader and it fits perfectly diameter wise, but is 1mm taller. The screw is M2-5mm, so I guess I need M2-3 or M2-4mm.
    Will order them tonight.

M2-3 screws will do the job. I've tried these on my Intel 320.

@John_Ratsey : Thank you for confirming the screw size.
Any suggestion on where I could buy them from a B&M store.

I am aware of the site laptopscrews.com etc., but was hoping to get it sooner.

    Thank you.

To the best of my knowledge - the M2 - 3mm, OEM Wafer head, with Head width <= 3.5mm.
They now have new OEM wafer heads listed under M2-3mm. Previously the OEM waferheads were listed only under the Assortments link.
They also have a ebay shop.
I am almost tempted to buy the OEM assortment (50 for 5.95$) from their ebay site.

Getting the exact screw size from their website was more expensive, so I ended up ordering the OEM assortment (50 for $5.89) from their ebay store with free shipping. Hope to get it by Saturday.
    Will post my findings.

Would love for you to give us an update of how this turned out when you get the screws. Thinking about doing something similar with a ThinkPad Edge e402s which also has a 7mm bay. Did you have to "break" any plastic parts in the drive cage like others have mentioned to fit the SSD in there?

    Hi,

I purchased the Intel 320 SSD with the intent to install it on the X220T (on order but long lead time). If the screws you purchased works, would you be up for selling some of the screws and sending via USPS?

I will need the smaller screws as well and I have no need for 50  .

It if works out, please PM me. I will PM you now so you will know who to contact if all works out.

    Thanks

I didnt have to break/remove anything from the drive cage. The 320 fits perfectly in the T420s drive cage.
Coming to think of it - I dont really need the screws, because the 320 without the screws (just the cover) is working just fine. ;)
Will post an update once I get the screws.

Finally received the screws today from laptopscrews.com (eBay store).
I ordered the assorted pack of 50 screws, but only 5 ended up actually fitting the SSD. See the pic here:

    Dabble

My suggestion: Buy the exact pack of M2-3mm or M2-4mm.
In retrospect - the SSD was working just fine without the screws to hold the cover, so as long as I had the original screws and the sleeve, it would have been OK. Having the screws gives some peace of mind. :)

If you are in Denver, you can get screws that are about perfect at AAA Metric Supply, just south of downtown. Called there today and a sales guy said he had M2 3mm and 4mm, but they had 4mm wide pan heads. I went down there anyway and at the counter I showed the screws to a veteran sales guy who knew they had ones with smaller heads and directed my original sales guy where to find them. I was told the inventory sticker on the bag indicated the screws were from at least 15 years ago. Anyway they are M2 3mm, cost $2 for six (got some spares) and solved the problem.
