Intel 4 series express vs Radeon express 200m. got 2 old Toshiba 1 with socket P... i think it's like a single core celeron from the core 2 era soon to get a core 2 duo. the other is pentium M with a radeon express 200.
I'm thinking hopefully both video chips are equal, so that the intel express 4 laptop the lead since it has newer tech.
Main uses i'm thinking are web browsing indie gaming and old games gaming.

I'd definitely go with the Intel 4 series. Radeon 200 is outright ancient, and was not that great even in its heyday.
-
I had a laptop with a Radeon express 200m from 2007-2010.
The GPU was too slow for Windows Vista. You'll be limited to XP or a lightweight linux variant (Xubuntu, Lubuntu, etc.). -
You mean too slow for Aero graphics, not too slow for Vista. Graphics settings can be turned down.

The Intel GMA 950 isn't that much better either.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 - NotebookCheck.net Tech
"It is a faster clocked version of the GMA 900 and does not support hardware T&L (Transform & Lightning) calculations (which is required for some games)"
In fact, for L4D, playing at 640x480 resolution with no AA and minimal graphic settings still result in 2 FPS.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-Xpress-200M.2175.0.html
"It is a bit faster than the Intel GMA 950 graphic core and threrefore not really suited for actual gaming."
FEAR is only playable at 640x480 resolution and minimal graphic settings. Quake 3 Arena runs a lot better.
Either way, you're extremely limited on what games you can run on these ancient low-range GPUs. -
Maybe I'm mistaken, but wouldn't the 4th generation imply something along the lines of X3100 or 4500MHD? Especially when combined with a Socket P CPU?

socket m,
ARK | Intel® Celeron® Processor 585 (1M Cache, 2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)
SLB6L (Intel Celeron M 585)
Socket M / Socket mPGA478MT
as for the ATI based laptops it's a Pentium M which lacks SSE3, i think that alone decides for the intel express 4 based laptop. i was thinking 2d inide games like retro city rampage or old games like Deus Ex 1 or Star Wars Dark forces.

This is in a Toshiba L305-S5917

If i'm not mistaken out of all the horrible Intel GPUs this is one of the lesser evils capable of some games no? In this case it sounds like the ATI is getting it's whopped pretty good. -
I have that GPU in three of my ThinkPads (X200s, X301, R500) and it's actually quite passable. Smooth as silk in W7, but please do bear in mind that I'm not a gamer...
-
I had an X3100 on a 775 board once years ago and it ran Burn Out Paradise and that's' late original xbox and early xbox 360 style of graphics.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I was able to run Source games on 4500MHD @ 720p with no major issues, albeit on a mix of low/medium settings. I can't comment on X3100. Radeon Express 200M isn't going to be much better. -

The GL version runs at 400MHz vs 533MHz of the other chip sets.

Let me guess GMA booster only works for the older Intel chipsets? it's a shame the author won't re-release / update it.

I remember CS:Source ran OK on the Xpress 200M if I turned the settings down a bit. And this was with a crappy Turion 64 ML-30 single core CPU.
Man I still can't believe I was using this ancient rig all the way until May 2011.cdoublejj likes this.
