Interested in knowing how these graphic components compare to one another. I'm looking at the Toshiba T135 w/SU4100 and the Intel 4500M, and also the Toshiba U500 w/P7450 (or better) with either the integrated Intel 4500MHD or discrete Nvidia G 210M w/512mb of DDR3, and I want to be able do typical home usage stuff, i.e: browse the web, email, word processing, be able to smoothly watch YouTube and Hula type videos in HD, maybe do some minor photo editing, and "maybe" some very light gaming like Far Cry or the COD games, but gaming is last on my list of needs, and if I can't do it, no big deal.
What's the capability differences between the three graphics choices, and which would be the best choice for the needs I described?

If you can stand playing older games like the original Far Cry, CoD(even CoD2), and your main priorities in a laptop are pricing and battery life/heat, the 4500M/MHD would be better.
Now the differences
4500M: These support HD acceleration on the video hardware, but doesn't do it fully.
Toshiba site says the T135 actually uses the low power GS45 chipset, which is actually 4500MHD. The 3D clock is lower than the regular GM45, but the HD playback clock can clock higher when its necessary.
4500MHD: This is the 4500M+all the HD acceleration. The only difference having that acceleration is that it'll run those videos more smoother
Far as I know though, having a decent CPU will take care of HD video playback no problem. My desktop with 2.4GHz Core 2 uses only 20-30% with 1080P Youtube videos, I doubt that the P7450 is that much slower. The SU4100 in the other hand, might struggle in some cases.
Better yet, if you can wait a month or so, laptops with dual core Core i5/i7 laptops will be far better in everything. -
Since you said you don't play that much, then you should aim for the 4500HD...BUT if you want to decently play, get the G 210.
I do second the idea of holding a month for the i5 processors. -

Not to mention a 25% better 5700MHD Intel graphics on the die package of the processor itself.

I put summaries of recent IGPs. Will update them as time pass by.
Arrandale(Core i5/i7 dual core) will be far better. You CAN really teach an old dog new tricks. -
Thanks for the info on the upcoming new processors. I can definitely wait another month or two, no rush at this time. Went to Best Buy today to check out what they had, and I heard one of the floor people telling an older lady to wait until the 3rd or 4th week of January, because that is when they should start getting all of the new computers in with the new technology. Sounds like the best way to go, so now that's just what I plan to do.

or you can have both, 4500mhd + Nvidia G210M in the case for Asus UL30VT or similar laptops.

i would wait a while... core i5 looks promising for dual core laptops and CULV laptops...
-
Definitely get the G210 if you're planning to any gaming.

Do you guys expect the core i3 and i5 processors to immediately become the mainstay processor for laptops, or gradually replace the C2D over the next year, starting with high-end laptops in late January?

I think intel said 3rd quarter 2010 core 2 will be phased out.
Intel 4500M or 4500MHD or Nvidia G 210M
