The 4500MHD is obviously a much more capable integrated graphics card than the X3100. But what about battery life?

The battery life of it is better than the x3100. Well, it's difficult to tell just how much, since the rest of the new chipset uses less power as well, but with everything else being as close to the same as possible, the x4500 will get better battery life.

Well, that is good news. Better performance and better battery life. Do you happen to know what the power draw is for each?

its a chipset graphics card, so most likely less than 5 watts of power for the entire chipset.

If the whole chipset is consuming less power I guess it doesn't really matter what the power draw for the graphics card is.

If you fully load the GM45's GPU when running on battery then it may drain the battery faster than the X3100.
