So i own the m15x (spec at sig), my question is since the current HDD contection on laptop is sata 2 and the 510 is sata 3( i believe) is it worth upgrading to this model or should i just go with a G2 series...?

In my opinion? Yes, it is a worthy upgrade over the G2 even with SATA2 speeds. When you consider that you'll be able to continue using this drive far into the future, the 510 is the better buy hands down with it's greater than mechanical HDD sequential r/w's and SATA3 bandwidth.

    Good luck.

I've different opinion on that. Since 510's are slower in 4K random (8-channel Marvel controler) and this drives are SLOWER than X25M-G2 (especially 160GB). Second aspect is reliability, it is good that Intel stick with 34nm but on their pdf's there is nothing on max host writes of this drives (there is MTBF and ECC ability but nothing about max TB that could be written). As I remember G2 160GB has max 15,1 TB writes - thats (in my one year tests) is something about 6 years of use. My writes oscilate between 5 to 8,4 GB day and laptop is almost 13h on. 510 could be very good choice for spare store area for HD movies, editig those movies etc. due to large sequential R/W.
If you as me - stick with 160 GB X25-m.

Thanks for the info, maybe it will be best to wait for some more user reviews on the 510, but i am still tilting towards the g2

I would also vote for x25m at this moment unless the usage pattern ask for 510 style performance. That again is mainly about reliability. Even though it has an Intel stamp, it is still too new and not enough real world test to show if there is problem comparing with the tried and true x25m.

I would go with Intel X25m 120gb, same performance as 160gb with better $/gb ratio. Or wait for intel G3, rumored to be still sata II drives with better reads/writes than G2, not as fast sequentials as 510, but faster random write/reads, so might end up as better drive (keeping my fingers crossed for intel controller).
