Any difference whatsoever? Many of the laptops I've been looking at offer either one or the other, but on a few, it's been a (relatively) cheap upgrade. Wondering if it's worth the $30 or if it's just about the same.
Thanks,
Tyler

T9550 = 35w TDP
P9600 = 25w TDP
The Pxxxx series CPUs draw less power. That means your laptop will have a longer battery life (maybe 5-15%, depending on what you are doing), and will run cooler. Thus, the P9600 is more desireable. Ask yourself if heat and battery life are worth those $30 to you, and make the choice. -
25 watts and 35 watts is only at full load at idle they most likely use about the same.

I think the difference between the p and t series are over-hyped. i switched from a p8600 dv5t to a t9550 dv4t and saw very little difference in temperatures (haven't tested battery life yet).

It depends on your notebook. At idle, the difference might only be 1W. If your system is a 12" ultraportable w/ total power consumption of 10W, you basically get 10% more battery life. If you system is a 15" mainstream notebook w/ total power consumption of 30W, the difference might be only 5 min.

A 15" mainstream with a power consumption of 30W - you're talking about idle, right? Otherwise, that must be some 15" netbook
.
10W can make a significant difference under load. If you have integrated graphics, you are talking maybe 50-65W under load with a Txxxx processor. A Pxxxx would produce 10w less than that, so 40w-55w. It all depends on options and what you're doing. Like I said before, 5-15% is what I'd expect. -
Yes, I mentioned in my message that I was talking about idle. At load the P processor would make a significant difference since it will be a lot closer to the TDP values.
