I am getting ready to order an HP DV4T and want to know if there is a big difference between the 2.1GHz - P7350 and the 2.25GHz - P8400 processors.
I will combo it with the Geforce 9200, 320HD, 3 Gig Ram; LED Display; 6 cell high capacity.
I am not a gamer. Just a dad who does wordprocessing, photo editing, some video edit, and watches DVDs and maybe get a TV tuner later.
Is there a big difference between the two processors for what I use it for?
I also am concerned about the heat, too, so maybe the 7350 is cooler? I don't know.
thanks,
PMO

I would go for the higher power one because it will have the same or better battery life because it is a newer cpu.
There is no reason to worry about heat if that is an issue. The bigger one would be cost. If you really wanted to make it faster I would upgrade the 9200 but that will cut battery life. -
If you are not a gamer I'd say go for P7350 . Both models have same wattage(25W).P7350 is 2.0Ghz & P8400 is 2.26Ghz
BTW how big is the price difference? -

It's a $50 difference. But by getting the 7350 I can put into the 9200 card. If I went with the 8400, I might have to get the on board GMA4500 instead of the Gefore 9200. Trying to keep costs down.

Then go with the 7350 and the 9200. If you are doing photo editing and movies you will like the boost verse the GMA4500.

Actually, there's no reason to get a semi powerful GPU if you're not going to do any gaming. The only program that uses the GPU for video/photo editing are Adobe after effects CS4, and Photoshop CS4 only use the GPU to enable fancy zoom/pan options.
If you're using any standard consumer class program, then they will NOT use the GPU one bit.
If you're not using the CS4 software, I'd go for the P8400 and 4500. -
I will be using Photoshop Elements 6.0 and Ulead Video Studio. I also plan to get the Vista 32 bit instead of the 64 bit to avoid conflicts with my programs.
-
Thats not true chances are people will be using GPU for hi-def movies and such and I believe for video encoding?
But again for what you have stated I think the integrated will be fine. I would take the better processor if you are sure you wont game. Otherwise if you think you will do a bit of video work, potentially game the p7350 will be more than enough for you needs while still giving a tad of gaming power. -
You are all helpful. Maybe I can spring for the extra $50 and get the 8400 and 9200. Gotta keep the spouse happy. She gave me a dollar limit, but I think I can squeeze it out. I might want to run a second monitor-display, so the extra "juice" with both processor and Video card might be necessary.

actually is there any chance you could give us your budget, or fill out the FAQ in the notebook forum, we might be able to find you a better laptop for your budget. Im not sure the dv4t is exactly the most price efficient laptop for what you are getting.

The p8400 because i hate the model number p7350

I checked the Costco website again, and the processor is a P7450 not P7350. Are they essentially the same?

Agreed with bigspin i can only find the 7350 but apparently it has a cpu speed of 2.13GHz? (thats what i found on a Toshiba)
either way Im guessing its just a marginally faster processor
Intel C2Duo P7350 or P8400
