Makes quite a bit of sense from a vendors perspective. Either way, we'll see what happens.

AMD needs to get its posterior in gear and provide a viable alternative at the high end. Capitalism only works when there is competition, otherwise you get stuff like this. That article should be read as "Notebook vendors ask Intel to delay the launch of Calpella so that they can have 3 months of selling obsolete technology at inflated prices."

If history is any guide for laptop tech it is always "delayed." Capella won't be available to actually purchase before Nov. 2009.

The schedule was Q3/Q4 or H2 ok?? Sometimes the reports are a bit off. Remember how long Intel took to introduce the integrated graphics portion of the Montevina platform? See, they don't say it but the delays of th previous platforms tends to carry onto the next platform.

Since nobody knows the exact date yet, 1-2 month difference isn't a big deal.

I was hoping to snag a new Calpella based laptop for the start of law school next fall, hopefully that will still be an option.

Intel will have to cave, pushing Capella back to Q1 2010 at the earliest. I mean, who releases a product when major customers make it clear that they don't want it yet? If it's companies such as Dell, Sony, and HP involved, the delay is guaranteed.
