Hi there,
I'm thinking of buying Dell Vostro V13 but the choices between the two CPU is bugging me. This laptop will be used mostly for school and media. But how much performance gain(3MB Cache vs 1MB)/battery life(5W vs 10W) can I expect from SU3500 over 743 ($80 difference).
Btw, on Dell's Canadian website, I can choose frm Celeron 743/5200rpm HDD($499) or SU3500/7200rpm HDD($579). I will be using Intel X25-M 80GB SSD on it though. So, I don't care which hard drive I get from Dell (7200 making lots of noise and vibration)
Thanks for your help in advance. =)

SU3500 has 2MB more cache, 0.1 GHz more and Speedstep for better battery life. It's about 10% faster during CPU intensive apps.
In real life it will be hard to notice the difference.
PS. I wouldn't recommend buying a single core CPU. SU2300 or SU4100 would be a better choice. -

That's an insane price difference. Maybe consider other laptops.
Or try arranging some discount with Dell, either with coupons or calling. -
"Upgrading" wouldn't really be worth it. 1 vs 3MB of cache means even less for the slow single core processors than it does for the faster dual cores. Also battery life shouldn't be a whole lot different. If you want a deal though, get the vostro V13 with Linux. The celeron starts at $100 less than the windows one and the core 2 starts at $81 less than with windows. You can put your own OS on there if you don't like linux. You could also grab any Dell OS DVD and put it on there.

I'm intending to go with Celeron then if I'm buying Vostro 13.
Otherwise, I'll wait for ASUS UL30JT if I want to pay more.
Thanks for your feedback guys. -
i would wait for the Asus.. for the price ur paying and what u'd get , the Asus would be way better.
