The "new" celerons are based off the Core 2 architecture, and should perform relatively well.

I was wondering when they'd come out with those things. LOL. Any idea how they compare with Pentium duel-core?

EDIT: NM, with a with only 1/2 (1/4 of a C2D) of the cache of a PDC I think I know

They are a little weaker due to the smaller amount of cache. But not that much weaker.

The biggest difference, I think, between the Celerons and the Pentium Dual Core's is that the Celerons do not use SteepStep (and hence will drain more battery life as they always run at top speed).

It looks like the cutting down on the cache from 1mb to 512k makes a much larger difference in performance VS the Pentium Dual Core losing 1mb from the 2 or 4mb the C2D's have. Having said that if the price is far enough below the E2140 (1.6ghz i think) then it won't make a bad cpu for a budget type system

I don't see a point in them. Intel will now have three segments as opposed to two in its laptop processor line up. Celerons, Core Duo's and Core 2 Duos.

All of the current processors are made from the Core 2 design. No more Core Duo.

These things really don't have throttling?
