Does anyone know which desktop processor Intel Celeron M 380 1.6GHz is equal to? I'm wondering because when I see the minimum (recommended) requirements of a game I'm not sure if my processor is good enough.
-
cel m @ 1.6 is equal to any odesktop processor that is running at about 1.6 exept duo core.
tell us your proccessor speed and or the model number and the game specs i we will give you a definate answer
maybe a very fast P3 very slow P4 -
a 1.6 celeron is almost identically as fast as a Pentium M 1.6, the clocks are identical, but the cache is smaller (1mb vs 2 mb)
you can multiply by 1.6 to 1.8-ish to get equivalent Pentium 4 desktop processor speed -
A Celeron M 1.6 will preform simillarly to a 2.4ghz Pentium 4 (northwood, 533 mhz FSB). -
no the P4 should give the cel m a slapping, if you could tell us what you have and give us specs of the game you what this would be easier...

I'm not too sure about that. I have a Pentium 4 in my desktop with 768mb of RAM. My Super Pi score is 3m 35s.
According to post #671
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=41097&page=68
jcy's Celeron 380 has a super pi score of 2m 18s
I know the Super Pi score is not all there is to CPU performance but at least its something to compare two different processors with.
I've also read elsewhere (too lazy right now to look up references) that the Celeron M is actually a pretty good chip but has a bad rep due to past Celeron offerings from Intel. -
ok you win on bench marks but i still think the p4 should still out preform it. as for my rig 1.5 cel against 2.8 p4 is not contest my p4 will lap it 10000 times over i could prove that with game preformace
either way where is the poster of this thread? -
Misinformation abounds.
A Celeron M is not a part of the desktop celeron architecture. It is uses the same core as the Pentium M (either Banais or Dothan) with half the L2 cache and speed-step disabled.
It preforms very well clock for clock. Like I said before, a Celeron M 1700mhz will preform on par with a Pentium 4 2400mhz (northwood).
The Celeron M 380 is based on the Dothan core. It has 1mb L2 Cache. It is a very powerful chip, despite the name Celeron. -
Thank you for the answers. OK..for example the game "DreamFall The Longest Journey 2". The system requirements are as follows:
Operating System: Windows XP with Service Pack 2
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 1.6 GHz or AMD Sempron 2800+ or higher
Memory: 512 MB or higher, 1024 MB recommended
Hard Drive: 7 GB free hard drive space
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
Video Card: 128MB DirectX 9.0c video card (see supported list)
Disc Drive: CD-ROM drive required to install and play
Peripherals: Windows 2000/XP compatible mouse and keyboard with the latest drivers
SUPPORTED CHIPSETS:
- ATI Radeon 9550
- ATI Radeon 9600
- ATI Radeon 9700
- ATI Radeon X300
- ATI Radeon X500
- ATI Radeon X600
- ATI Radeon X700
- ATI Radeon X800
- ATI Radeon X1300
- ATI Radeon X1600
- ATI Radeon X1800
- Nvidia Geforce FX 5600
- Nvidia Geforce FX 5700
- Nvidia Geforce FX 5900
- Nvidia Geforce FX 5950
- Nvidia Geforce 6200
- Nvidia Geforce 6600
- Nvidia Geforce 6800
- Nvidia Geforce 7800
And the notebook which I'm talking about has the following specs:
• CPU
Intel Celeron M 380 1.6GHz, 400MHz, 1MB L2
• Memory
DDR2 533 2x512MB
• VGA
Nvidia Go7400, 128MB VRAM
• HDD
60GB IDE 5400rpm
Are the notebook's specs good enough for playing that game? -

Throughout all of this then, what would a Single Core duo be worth, in terms of comparisons?

The Core Solo would be faster than a Celeron or Pentium M, yes.
Perhaps you would consider making a thread in the What Should I Buy forum and completing the FAQ? We can help you find a laptop that suits your needs if you'd like. -
Ahhh so YOU took my actual name "Chaz" lol
What would the Core Solo be compared to? My favorite game is Age of Empires III....should I give it a shot, even though i'm only using a Solo and I have the integrated video card in my e1705?
...I've already bought a laptop. -

A Core Solo would probably be on par, and slightly faster, than a similarly-clocked Pentium M. It is capable of handling any modern game. I've played everything from Galactic Battlegrounds (req. a Pentium II) to Quake 4 on my Penitum M 1.86GHz without a hitch. -
I'm sorry to keep asking away here, Chaz (feels weird typing that lol since everyone knows me as Chaz lol) ...but would the integrated video be sufficient (I think it's 128MB RAM) to run AoE III? I only ask because i'm a huge fan..got the laptop for business, but secretly fiending for AoE on the run

Hm, well, depends on the card - check here:

There is a link to an upgrade advisor and you'll be able to see if you can run the game . . -
Okay, no more questions...GREAT reference by the way, i'll definitely be using it!

True! Charles in Charge proved that!
Intel Celeron M 380 1.6GHz is equal to?
