Actually, the other way around. Core 2 is a component of Centrino, which is just a collection of Intel components.

for a laptop to be named a centrino it has to meet intel requirements of it and this includes a specific range of CPUs (currently the C2D i believe), motherboard with the right chipset and the intel wireless adapter. if any of these is missing, then it cant be named a centrino.

Intel® Centrino® mobile technology is the brand name for Intel's wireless mobile computing technology. The brand signifies Intel's technology for notebook computers. The technology is based on a new mobile processor microarchitecture and wireless capability. Intel Centrino mobile technology includes features designed to enable great battery life, thinner and lighter form factors, and breakthrough mobile performance.

The technologies represented by the Intel Centrino brand include:

Intel® Pentium® M processor (this might be old)
Intel® 855 Chipset Family or Mobile Intel® 915M Express Chipset Family
    Intel® PRO/Wireless 2100/2100A/2200BG/2915ABG LAN MiniPCI Adapters
These components are designed, optimized and validated by Intel to maximize the wireless mobile computing experience.

That is what Intel says. They claim that because they designed them to work together you get better performance and more efficient power usage vs off the shelf combinations. I say just a way for Intel to make more money!

So then it is ok with a dell 1505 5600 speed. With this vista premium crap it will be slow. Even if upgrade ram. this is a replacement laptop. damn

of course centrino was a money making scheme and even I almost bought it when I didnt even know what it was back then. the performance comments are semi true but i think battery life did improve, perhaps all these components consume less power so together u get better life, or maybe not lol

as for jpep13, no idea wat ur on about!

The Intel Core 2 Duo is a processor. Intel Centrino is a platform, consisting of a Intel CPU, Intel chipset with an on-board graphics processor and a wireless card. Unless a notebook has all three, it does not carry the Centrino Logo.

There are actually different specifications of Centrino. The Carmel and Sonoma platforms, released in 2003 and 2005 I believe, contained an Intel Pentium M CPU. The Napa platform, released in 2006, was a major step forward, as it introduced a Dual Core, 32bit CPU into the platform, known as the Intel Core Duo.

The latest version of Centrino is Santa Rosa, known as Centrino Pro. It has a new CPU, with a faster 800Mhz FSB, meaning that the link between the CPU and RAM is faster, allowing data to be channeled more quickly through PC components, making the whole system more quick and efficient.

If you were to buy a notebook now, it would be recommended to buy a notebook running on Centrino Pro, but it depends on your needs. If your a very light user, Dual Core would be a waste of money for you.
