    Hi

I really want to buy a notebook to use for the following appilcations.

    Internet Exploring
    Audio/Video Downloading & Viewing
    Word Processing
    Light/Medium Gaming
    DVD Viewing

The two notebooks im interested in are almost identical accept for
    a couple of things,the cheapest one has a Intel core 2 duo T5250 (1.5Ghz)
and a 160GB hard drive and the more expensive one has a 250GB hard drive
with an intel core 2 duo T7250 (2.0Ghz).

Im not bothered about hard drive space as i use external hard drive's
but i need to know about the CPU, will the T5250 be good enough
    for all of my applications?

    I would appreciate any help.

    Thankyou

It would.. Even for heavy gaming, CPU isn't that important unlike RAM or Graphics card.

For your uses, the 1.5GHz cpu will be just fine. And paired with a dedicated gpu, you should have no problem even with gaming, which is the heaviest thing you plan on doing.

Both notebooks have the same GPU and RAM.

    RAM: 2048MB DDR2
GPU: 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600 (1023MB Hypermemory)

    Is this alright?

Keep in mind that the more demanding games need at least 1.8GHz Core2Duo processor to run such as COD4, Halo2 etc...

That's just a recommendation. Not like the game is absolutely not going to run with anything less than that.

Yes, for light-medium gaming those specs are perfectly fine even with the 1.5GHz cpu.

T5250 should be fine but what is the price difference? I mean if $100 I would do everything to get T7250 and the 250GB HDD as the value would be too much to pass up. Above $200 no I would settle on T5250.

    T5250 w/ 160GB vs. T7250 w/ 250GB??? Definitely looks like a $200+ difference to me.

if it's within your budget, go with the better processor which would provide system longevity. remember you processor is a harder upgrade than plugging in more ram.

While I generally agree, these Intel PGA chips are simple enough and since he did not bring RAM into the conversation, in this case I would say what I said first, $100 gotta do $200 or more maybe not. Especially since he can buy T7250 for $215 on NewEgg. And benx009 pointed out likely more than $200 upgrade, if so T5250 should be fine.

I have the T5250 and it runs everything I throw at it! (Crysis, Supreme Commander, World In Conflict)

I HIGHLY recommend getting the 1.5GHz. This not only saves you money now, but will allow you in the future to drop a very fast penryn processor in when performance starts to take age.
