    Hi All

I'm looking at the Lenovo A600 desktop which comes with an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T6400 ( 2GHz 800MHz 2MB ) processor. I've gone through the processor sticky (which provided some GREAT information by the way), but I still can't figure out whether or not this is a good processor. As an alternative to the A600 desktop, I'm looking at the Lenovo X200 notebook which comes with either and Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor P8400 (2.26GHz, 3MB L2, 1066MHz FSB) or an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor P8600 (2.40GHz, 3MB L2, 1066MHz FSB). Is there a big difference between the T6400 and the P8400/P8600 and/or between the P8400 and the P8600? The P8400/P8600 seem to be top of the line processors. As far as the T6400 goes, I just can't tell (and I don't want to buy a machine with a slow or soon-to-be obsolete processor). Really appreciate your input!!

The T6400 is a laptop processor, just like the P8400 and P8600.

The P8400 and P8600 are both faster than the T6400, and they use less power.
The P series processors are rated at 25watts, whereas the T6400 is a 35 watt processor if I remember correctly.
The only difference between the P8400 and P8600 is clock speed. The P8600 has .5 higher multiplier than the P8400. 8.5 versus 9.0
The BUS is 266MHz (1066MHz quad pumped)
The P series processors are what you should look for.
They are the best mobile processor out at the moment in terms of power efficiency

Thank you for the info, KTRON. I'm looking at a desktop that comes with the T6400. It's the Lenovo A600 All-in-One. Should I stay away from this machine given that it is using a mobile processor? From your description it sounds to me as though this processor is not befitting of a high-end desktop. Perhaps it is being used here because it fits in the all-in-one? I should probably just go back to my original idea of getting a new notebook - was trying to save a bit of money by going with an all-in-one desktop, but notebook may turn out to be a better solution. I just can't decide. Do you have any advice? Thank you again for your input!!

Lenovo's all in one is made from laptop parts. In fact 90% of computers in that style are laptop based to keep them that small.

The P8400/8600 definitly out benches the T6400. The T6600 and the P7450 bench around the same but the P7450 uses 10 watts less power at full blast. If you can afford it go with atleast that P8400.
