I have ordered a new laptop, and was wondering which one would be better.

(Old Laptop) Dell Inspiron 6000, Intel Centrino 2.00GhZ Processor, 1GB Dual Channel Ram, 60GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive, 64MB Graphics Intel Card

(New Laptop) Dell Inspiron E1505, Intel Duo Core 1.83GhZ Processor, 1GB Dual Channel Ram, 60GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive, 256MB Nvidia Graphics Card

Which one would be better for multitasking, running programs without any problems, and occasionally playing games? I have heard some people say that the 2.86GhZ Core Duo compares up to a 3.2Ghz Pentium processor. Any information would be helpful!!

    Thanks alot!!

The core duo is hands down better at multitasking, and can also take advantage of multithreaded programs.

If you are running single threaded programs, and only 1 program at a time however, it may not actually be faster than your old pentium M.

As far as I know, there is no 2.86 Ghz core duo. The 2.16 Ghz core duo does compare favorably with a P4 3.2ghz HT desktop processor, so clock speed isn't everything.

The core Duo is much better than the original Pentium M. Also, the core duo is also a lot better at multi tasking. That's wat it's designed 2 do. Overall, ur new laptop is a lot better than the old 1.

Have fun with ur new laptop!

New laptop would be a lot better than the i6000. A 2.86GHz Core Duo would pretty much match and beat any Pentium 4/D. But a 1.86GHz Core Duo should be able to match a Pentium D 930/940 in most applications. It definately should have a leg up on a Pentium 4 3.2GHz.
