Hello, I´m buying a Vaio but I´ve got the possibility of buying it in 2 places:
- In the official page, they give me the option to have it with a Intel Core i5-520M 2.4Ghz
- In a shop they give me the option to buy it with a Intel Core i5-430M 2.26Ghz
Is there much difference between i5-520m 2.4Ghz and i5-430M 2.26Ghz?
Thanks, and sorry for my english

not much except for AES-NI support.
which mainly helps out [alot] when unzipping. -
So for gaming I wont notice the effect right?
-
for gaming, you should be more worried about your GPU rather than your CPU in almost all cases(exceptions include WoW, GTA IV, SupCom)
-
It has a Ati 5650, with a 4Gb RAM and i5 430Mb 2.26Ghz
Do you think it will run Just Cause 2 and Gta IV well?
Thanks for your help -
Nothing runs GTAIV well. It's a badly done console port. The 5650 is a mid-level card, so you won't be able to max out settings on anything but older games, but it should be able to play both of the games at medium settings or so.
-
That´s ok for me lol
By the way... Have you heard any bad reports of Sony on the forums? or something?
Thanks -
By the way, in GTA 4, reducing the draw distance will go a long way in making it reasonably playable.

Isn't AES also used in the wireless encryption protocalls? And if so does the i5's hardware accelleration benefit that as well?
-
The new CPU AES opcodes only get used if the SOFTWARE in question has been recompiled to use the opcodes.
Same thing for the new TXT opcodes that run in conjunction with the TPM hardware. If the software you are using hasn't been rewritten/recompiled to use the new features, it runs as before.
For example; Bitlocker is aware of and uses the new AES opcodes. Even with those 'advantages' Bitlocker still lags behins TrueCrypt (which does not use the new AES opcodes) in just about every measure of performance. -
But in regards to the original question: The Core i5-430M should be plenty powerful for your needs, it certainly won't bottleneck the 5650 in games. -
I have the i5-520M and the ATI 5650 in my Lenovo and it'll play just about anything a throw at. GTA 4 and Just Cause 2 seem to eat up laptops though. If it's not much more, go for the 520M.

Well, I would still call it a mid-level card, but whether or not you'll be able to max out the settings depends on the resolution. At 1366x768 you'll probably be able to max out quite a lot of games (with exceptions like Crysis, which you'll have to stick with medium settings for), but at higher resolutions the 5650 will start to have some trouble.

I suppose I'm used to higher resolutions. 1366x758, the 5650 will be a pretty decent card. I'm just coming from the perspective of a 5830 on a 1920x1080 screen and only being able to play max settings and full resolution with older games like C&C3
